How much does a new air conditioning system cost?... This can be a very tricky question. Evaluating the cost of a new HVAC system can not only be a complicated process but can also fluctuate in price quite drastically.
Just like buying a home the price of the same home can vary based on features and additionally can vary based on size. Fortunately, when you purchased your house, you also immediately determined the size of your HVAC system whether you knew it or not. Heating and Air Conditioning, when it comes to central air, is generally determined based on the size of the home and the number of windows. Some additional factors can come into play however, things like sun rooms or workout rooms may require additional ventilation as too keep the house feeling comfortable at all times.
Similar to buying a home, most people do not want to buy a new HVAC system every year. Dependability, longevity and performance become key factors when choosing a system. Like most anything in life, you get what you pay for. Focusing on the long-term solution is key when choosing your HVAC system. Often time’s people get too caught up on the initial price and ignore things like warranty, maintenance and product reliability. However, like buying a new home, if all you want is the bare minimum then choosing an option based solely around creating heating or air then this may be all you need.
Some of the factors that play into buying a new Heating or Air Conditioning system are things like size of the system needed, amount of noise, number of windows, warranty, installation and convenience.
This being said, size of the system is one of the most important things to look into. Obviously if your system is too small, the system will not cool or heat properly leaving the system running all the time and never reaching the desired temperature. On the other hand, aside from what the overzealous salesman may tell you, there is such thing as too big of a system. If the system is too big the system will cool the space too rapidly without enough time to properly remove the moisture from the air; leaving with you a cold, damp space. Air systems are measured in something called BTU’s or British Thermal Units. Determining the amount of BTU’s needed for a given area becomes the tricky part. A general rule of thumb is that an air conditioner needs 20 BTU’s for each square foot of living space. However, certain considerations come into play like; number of windows in the space and how big, ceiling height and even the size of the doorways can play a part. Additionally, sunny rooms may require for additional BTU’s as well as kitchens.
Now that you understand the importance of choosing a system that is fit for you; I will list some of the most common “add-ons” when purchasing an HVAC system.
